How do humans make sense of the complexity of the social world around them? This question is at the core of my research program. I study intergroup conflict and cooperation, prejudice and discrimination, multiple and crossed categorization, dimensionality and complexity of social identity, and values and morality. I believe cross-cultural research is crucial to making psychological science generalisable and relevant, and I am continuously involved in various collaborative cross-cultural projects.

(they/them)
My research focuses on intergroup relations and social identity, with an emphasis on how and why multiple group memberships (e.g., gender, class, ethnicity) intersect to shape attitudes and behaviours. Leveraging advanced methodologies—including online factorial surveys, experience sampling, and cross-cultural studies—I examine the cognitive and cultural mechanisms that drive social categorization, judgment, and intergroup dynamics. My goal is to provide findings that can be translated into actionable strategies to promote justice and cooperation in diverse societies.
Research interests: Intergroup relations (e.g., stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination), social identity, intersectionality, gender roles and sexism, LGBTQ+/queer studies, cross-cultural psychology

In my research, I aim to unpack the complexity of Prejudice in the face of socioeconomic inequalities by distinguishing between ingroup bias and status bias. Additionally, my colleagues and I have developed a typology of social milieus - the "bubbles" in which we live - to study conflicts between them and social cohesion.

Research Assistant
Georgia capewell (she/her)
My research interests can be encompassed under the general theme of social complexity: spanning social identity, misinformation, multiple categorisation and fashion psychology. I am currently assisting a cross-cultural study investigating the inferences we make about others based on their membership in social groups, under the supervision of Dr Lusine Grigoryan.

My main research interest is situated within social psychology, with a particular emphasis on inter- and intra-cultural processes and culturally sensitive approaches. I am especially interested in the ways these dimensions shape identity, social perception, and also gender norms.

Svenja Paß (she/her)
My research interests lie in Social Psychology, Social Neuroscience, and Social Cognition. I am particularly interested in identity integration in its various forms, as well as contextual experiences of loneliness, especially how they are influenced by relationship status, living arrangements, and discrepancies in social touch. Additionally, I am focusing on patterns of change in general, such as increasing and decreasing frequencies.

Intern / Volunteer
Olivia Tolan-Pope (she/her)
My interests involve the intersections of digital culture, political psychology, and data science. I am interested in exploring how emerging technologies and online spaces influence belief systems, behaviour, and social inequality, particularly in areas such as gender, ideology, and digital ethics.
